Where Change Starts

Information overload is the perfect way to maintain a distracted public.

Between the recent ICE killings of Alex Pretti and Renee Nicole Good as well as the sickening release of thousands of Epstein files – there is way too much going on to focus on just one thing.

Not only are there multiple alarming news headlines and events happening, but on the 5th day of Black History Month, the President of the United States posted a video to his Truth Social platform. The video depicts former President and First Lady Barack and Michelle Obama as monkeys.

Their faces were edited on the body of apes. Karoline Leavitt, the White House Press secretary responded to the backlash of the video calling on the media to “Stop their fake outrage.”

Dating back to slavery, Black people have long been compared to monkeys. Comparing Black people to monkeys is a very deep rooted insult that originated from European history and was used to justify enslaving people of color. Even the most ignorant of Americans are aware of how harmful it is to compare Black people to any animal, but especially apes/monkeys.

Hours after the video was posted, it was taken down. The White House claims that it was erroneously uploaded by a White House staffers despite the video staying up for hours and overnight. On top of all this information, Karoline Leavitt claimed that the video was meant to depict Trump and the democrats (Obamas) as characters from the Lion King, even though there are no ape characters in the Lion King

It truly cannot be overstated how outrageous actions such as these are coming from a major world leader. What’s even more disturbing is that there are many other actions being swept under the rug from this administration because the public is so burnt and overwhelmed from everything happening all at once.

Typically the solution to this would be telling people to pay attention, but at this point paying attention is mentally draining. There is a general attitude of “Well, there’s nothing we can really do about it,” which in some ways, sure, is true.

Primary elections are coming up, and many don’t realize that the real change starts there. Local elections dictate who gets to run at the top. If there was any advice to give to those who are displeased with the current state of our country…It’s to VOTE. Not just in the big presidential elections, but your local senator, city council, lawmakers. Change starts at the lowest level.
