Have you ever heard of the invisible string theory? This theory is the idea that the universe or God or whatever higher power you may believe in is waiting for the perfect moment to introduce you to those you’re fated to meet. These people will be somehow connected throughout your entire life, but you won’t meet them until the time is right. An example of this would be that kid who was in your kindergarten class that you never really spoke to and suddenly you two become best friends in college. The invisible string is waiting for the right moment to connect you both.
This theory is something I wholeheartedly believe in, simply because I’ve witnessed it many times in my life. My best friend, who I hadn’t become close to until freshman year of high school, was in my Pre-K class and I didn’t even know until we found a class photo about a year ago. Another friend and I had worked together briefly 2 years ago and only became close late last year when we suddenly found ourselves in the same college class.
Everybody loves to speak about fate as if it’s some far-fetched idea, but I believe it to be true. Those who are meant to be in your life come and go at the perfect time.
On the topic of relationships, one thing most people don’t speak about is after you’ve formed all these meaningful relationships and met the people it feels like you’ve been destined to, there inevitably comes a time where you have to say goodbye. Maybe they’re moving away, or they’re leaving to go to an area in life that’s different from where you met them. As someone who loves hard and holds those I value close, goodbyes are extremely hard for me.
It brings me anxiety knowing that my relationship with someone is about to shift due to distance or new obstacles, because what if not seeing them everyday means they’ll leave completely?
The idea of the invisible string theory has helped this anxiety of mine, because clearly if they’re in my life they’re here for a reason. If they’re meant to stay then they will…and if not? That’s okay too, because I’ll be grateful for the time spent and memories gained, and bask in the notion that some people are here to be lessons.
Someone important to me once said that some people are branches and others are roots. Branches eventually fall off, but the roots will be here to stay through every season.
