The Impact of “The Nerve!”

Brownicity  •  November 06, 2023

In 2020, Brownicity first launched our webinar course THE NERVE! – CONNECTING THE BRAIN & RACISM. This was in the depth of the pandemic and not long after the murder of George Floyd, when there was a global uprising against racism. It’s been a minute, but the webinar is just as important today, if not more, so we think it’s time to revisit it.

In this course, psychotherapist Kim Honeycutt helps us see the real connections between our nervous system and racism, and how understanding polyvagal research equips us for our antiracism journey. 🧠

In the video below, Kim shares a little about the important historical connection between racism and psychology. She reminds us how critical it is to “know our history, know how we got here, and know how we evolve from this…so we can reach a higher consciousness that allows us to give greater compassion to ourselves and to all people around us.”

Kim briefly mentions Dr. Paul Popenoe, a prominent eugenicist who was dubbed the “father of marriage counseling,” but who twisted science to support his deeply racist agenda of increasing the marriage and reproduction of white people while deterring the reproduction of people of color, people with disabilities, and others deemed “undesirable.” If you’re interested in knowing more about his role in eugenics, you can learn more here.

IG Live

To expand on these ideas and issues, Kim Honeycutt will be joining Dr. Lucretia Berry for an Instagram Live on Monday November 6, at 12:00 noon to continue. You don’t want to miss it!!
